How to Upgrade Windows Server 2019 Standard to Datacenter

Note: This method only applies to upgrading from Windows Server Standard to Windows Server Datacenter. Downgrading from WS Datacenter to WS Standard is not feasible.

Note: While upgrading, your documents, installed programs, and other files will remain intact. However, we recommend backing up your data in case of unexpected issues like power outages.

Follow these steps:

In the taskbar search box, type CMD. When Command Prompt appears, right-click it and select Run as administrator.

Type the following command: dism /online /set-edition:serverdatacenter /productkey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX /accepteula. Replace the Xs with your product key and press Enter.

Once the activation process finishes, restart the server, and your Windows Server 2019 Datacenter will be ready for use.
