How to Upgrade Windows 8.1 Home to Pro

Note: Upgrading from a lower edition to a higher one in Windows 8.1 gives you more features.
Note: Your documents, installed programs, and other files will remain intact during the upgrade, but it’s advisable to back up your data to prevent any loss due to power outages or unexpected events.

Follow these steps:

  1. Open System Properties by right-clicking the This PC or My Computer icon and selecting Properties.
  2. In the Windows Edition section, click on Get more features with a new edition of Windows to launch the Add Features to Windows 8.1 assistant.
  3. In the User Account Control (UAC) prompt, click on Yes.
  4. Click on I already have a product key.
  5. Enter the 25-character Windows 8.1 Pro product key and click Next.
  6. Accept the licence terms and click Add features.
  7. Note: Save your work before clicking the Add Features button, as your PC will restart at least once during the upgrade.
  8. Once the upgrade is complete, you will see the message Thanks, everything's finished and your PC is ready to go. You are now using Windows 8.1 Pro.
